TYPES OF WATER WELLS

Maverick Drilling can drill and provide services for domestic, irrigation, and municipal wells throughout New Mexico and Texas. We have knowledgeable staff, we’re licensed to drill wells and install pumps, and we’re able to respond quickly to any service call associated with your well.

DOMESTIC WATER WELLS

NEW MEXICO
The domestic well is the most prevalent of water wells in New Mexico. Home owners, small farmers and businesses utilize this type of well for drinking water and for lawn and garden purposes (up to one acre). A domestic well permit is relatively simple to obtain.

TEXAS
Maverick Drilling is also licensed to drill wells in the state of Texas. A well permit is not required in Texas. Be sure to contact us for more information.

IRRIGATION WATER WELLS

Irrigation wells are utilized for areas of greater than one acre, and they fall under prior-use laws. If you already own water rights in the state of New Mexico, or if you purchase property with water rights, you may obtain an irrigation well drilling permit. If not, you are limited to a domestic well.

MUNICIPAL WATER WELLS

Large utility wells are for mass water consumption. Maverick Drilling is experienced in drilling large municipal wells.

For more information on two typical well configurations, have a look at our AQUIFERS page.

SCREEN/GRAVEL PACK WELLS

Most of the wells that we drill are screen/gravel pack wells that are drilled down to an unconfined aquifer. The casing of the well contains screen to allow water to pass from the external surroundings of the casing into the inside, where it’s pumped up to the earth’s surface through a drop pipe.

ARTESIAN WELLS

There are artesian aquifers throughout New Mexico and Texas. These aquifers are under pressure and may or may not require a pump to bring the water to the earth’s surface.
